In 1992, I began my career working in the area of addictions which naturally progressed to include those with mental health challenges in addition to substance use (i.e., Concurrent Disorder). There are a variety of obstacles people encounter on their paths, and I value these. Personal challenges have been placed before me many times in my life, so there is no judgement from me. I do everything I can to support and empower you on taking steps forward. For example:
- Adolescence can be an especially difficult time of life for all concerned. With youth, I have learned much about what motivates adolescents and how to guide them to recognize their positive strengths and to use those to help shift their behaviours. Lifespan development has helped clients and families to better understand the complications during this stage of life. Whether working with parents and/or teenagers themselves, breakthroughs are attainable and rewarding for all concerned.
- For couples, there is so much to learn in navigating healthy relationships. Improving communication, clarifying past issues and hurts, identifying attachment styles, and working towards resolutions give insight into providing freedom from our previous conditioning.
- Understanding the significant and different perspectives between the genders is helpful to men in improving communication and repairing and enhancing relationships with self and other.
With over 25 years in clinical counselling, I offer a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment to assist in unravelling current and/or past issues. My knowledge of BC’s Mental Health and Substance Use Services system has been helpful in guiding, assisting, directing, and supporting my private practice clients through the many doors available in our healthcare system. I can also provide recommendations and referrals for medical and/or community assistance when appropriate.
I also hold groups and workshops on mental health, anger management,
healthy relationships, and the brain and addiction.
